Overtone is an open-source audio platform aimed at facilitating the exploration of innovative musical concepts, encompassing synthesis, sampling, instrument creation, live coding, and collaborative jamming. It integrates the robust SuperCollider audio engine with Clojure, an advanced Lisp dialect, to deliver an engaging interactive auditory experience. Users can effortlessly synchronize their visuals and sound. Overtone offers seamless compatibility with Quil, a Clojure interface for Processing, and ShaderTone, a Clojure adaptation of ShaderToy, which is an OpenGL GLSL shader programming environment.
Specifically engineered for live coding, Overtone’s Lisp foundation allows for the real-time programming and modification of synthesizers, effects, analyzers, and musical generators while the sound continues to play. Overtone represents not only a software solution but also a vibrant and expanding community.
